Lutein is the principal carotenoid concentrated in the macula, the central area of the retina responsible for vision. Lutein and companion carotenoid zeaxanthin work in synergy to provide nutritional support to our eyes and skin – the only organs of the body directly exposed to the outside environment. Their primary role is to provide antioxidant protection against sunlightinduced free radical damage.
Suggested Usage

Great product but hard to swallow

I'm sure Natural Factors Lutein 40 mg with zeaxanthin is an excellent product. I've been using it for some time and my eyes are doing well. I'm convinced the progression of cataracts has been mitigated by taking lutein daily (the optometrist first noticed I was getting cataracts 14 years ago). Natural Factors 40 mg lutein is in a "softgel", but it doesn't feel soft when I swallow it. It's too large and rigid for me, so it hurts when it goes down. It would be helpful if the company offered a softer softgel. My son on the other hand has no problem with it. I take other larger softgels, but they're softer and go down more easily. I will be looking for another comparable lutein that I can swallow more easily and let my son finish off the Natural Factors'.
