- The following foods are rich in absorbable calcium: dark green leafy vegetables, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, sesame seeds, canned Alaskan salmon and sardines. Magnesium, silica, potassium, boron, vitamin D and essential fatty acids are necessary for calcium metabolism. Saturated fats, sodium and phosphorus (carbonated drinks) are calcium antagonists.
